Six drink limit, no smoking and no strapless tops at some Spanish resorts

Holidaymakers will not be able to slug down endless booze during the summer holidays as the Balearic islands and British Embassy have launched a campaign restating 'zero-tolerance for tourism of excesses'. These include smoking bans, six drinks a day and no strapless vest tops in some restaurants.

According to The Mirror, the strict rules will apply in popular resorts for all-inclusive holidays to places such as Ibiza, Majorca and Menorca, all of which can be travelled to from Bristol Airport. The regulations are a bid to reduce rowdy shindigs and drunk tourists.

Lloyd Milen, the embassy consul said: “We all have a responsibility to know the rules, comply with them and guarantee an excellent vacation for ourselves and those around us.”

In a bid to slash the number of cigarette butts left lying around in the sand, 28 beaches in the Balearic Islands have banned smoking. In Ibiza, smoke-free beaches include Playa de Santa Eulalia del Rio, Play de Talamanca, while Menorca has declared Binissafuller or Platja Gran as smoke-free.

Majorca’s beaches which now have smoking bans in place include Sant Joan, Santa Ponsa, Sa Platgeta, Cala Estancia, Cala Sant Vincenc and Calo des Moro.

Meanwhile, holidaymakers heading off to San Antonio in Ibiza and Magaluf, El Arenal, Playa de Palma in Mallorca are being limited to six alcoholic drinks a day. These will also be evenly distributed during the day with tourists getting only three drinks per meal. Any additional drinks must be paid for.

When it comes to restaurants, 11 restaurants associated with Palma Beach resorts have banned certain items of clothing, bringing in a stricter dress code. These include tank tops without straps, football shirts and swimming suits and trunks.

And there is going to be a clampdown on partygoers and organisers of ‘unlicenced events’ where eye-watering fines can be applied. If a party takes place too close to homes or in a protected natural space, everyone involved from participants to marketers, can face up to a £25,000 fine.

Tourists can also be fined if they turn up late for a meal. Spanish restaurants were said to be ‘fed up’ with no shows. Majorca’s restaurant association, Restauracion CAEB has introduced a new policy where customers will be asked for a credit card number when booking. If they are a ‘no show’, they will be charged 20% of the anticipated bill.
