Six Americans who had been detained in Venezuela are on their way back to the US after President Donald Trump announced their release on social media. The President expressed his gratitude to Richard Grenell and his team for their efforts in bringing the hostages home.
Richard Grenell, Trump's envoy for special missions, confirmed that he is accompanying the Americans back to the US after meeting with Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro in Caracas. Grenell shared that the individuals had the opportunity to speak with President Trump and were extremely thankful for their imminent return.

Although the identities of the six Americans were not disclosed, a photo shared by Grenell showed them on the plane wearing light blue outfits typically worn by individuals in Venezuelan prisons.
The purpose of Grenell's trip to Venezuela was initially reported to be a 'special mission' focused on repatriating Venezuelan criminals and gang members, as well as securing the release of detained Americans. This focus was later confirmed by State Department Special Envoy for Latin America Mauricio Claver-Carone and White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt during a briefing at the White House.
