Site of former High Street giant in Ayr is earmarked for new retail development

Plans are in place to lease out the former Watt Brothers site on Ayr High Street.

The two-storey building closed in October 2019 with the loss of 18 jobs as the long-standing firm plunged into administration.

A further 20 jobs were also lost at the Watt Brothers store in Irvine when it shut in 2019.

Shepherd Chartered Surveyors are now bringing the Ayr High Street premises onto the market and inviting interest.

A spokesperson said: “Shepherd Chartered Surveyors is bringing to market an extensive unit in a prime retail location on Ayr High Street for lease.

“Located in the heart of Ayr town centre with nearby occupiers including Tesco Express, Wilko, Waterstones, Boots and Marks and Spencer, the 15,581 sq. ft fully-fitted unit comprises the first floor of a substantial modern two-storey property.”

And Shepherd partner Kevin Bell said: “This extensive unit comprises retail space predominantly at first-floor level and benefits from groundfloor High Street access via escalators and passenger lift.

“As such, we anticipate keen interest in this unique opportunity.”

Rental offers are also invited.

Interested parties should contact the letting agents on (01292) 267987 and 07917 834912.
