Sirens star wants Glasgow side to aim for the top in Netball Superleague

Sirens star Beth Goodwin says her side are looking to establish themselves as a top-four side in the Vitality Netball Superleague this season.

The Glasgow side narrowly missed out on a place in the play-offs last time around, and Goodwin says they want to improve on what they achieved.

Sirens lost 54-40 to Team Bath in their opening game on Saturday, but triumphed 50-44 against Wasps the following day, so have points on the board.

Cambuslang star Goodwin says Sirens know they have the talent, but are looking to prove it.

She said: "We want to build on last season. We surprised a few people with our results last season but we knew we were capable of taking it to the top four teams and we want to do that again this season.

"I think the key for us will be consistency.

"There's probably more expectations on us this season after last season, but we just want to focus on ourselves, take it match by match, and hopefully the results will take care of themselves.

"We want to build on last season's performances, so we want to improve and we have the aims of trying to get to top four, but we'll be taking it a game at a time and ensuring we execute our game-plan so the results will match what we want to achieve."

Goodwin says being behind closed doors made a huge impact last term, and is delighted to be playing in front of fans again.

She said: "It was a really good opening weekend. It was a bit up and down in terms of the performances, but after Saturday we regrouped, focused on the task ahead for the match against Wasps, and thankfully got the win on Sunday, so we ended the weekend on a high.

"Playing in front of fans again was amazing.

"We were behind closed doors for most of last season and really missed having the fans there.

"At the weekend it was such an amazing atmosphere, so many fans had travelled down from Scotland to support the Sirens, as well as having other fans there, so it was really great to be a part of."
