Tickets for Tom Jones' huge Cardiff Castle gig sold out in minutes, with an extra date added due to demand. The Welsh legend announced on Tuesday, February 7 that he would play his first headline show in the Welsh capital in 20 years this summer. The musical icon will be taking to the castle stage on Friday, July 21 as part of his 'Ages and Stages' tour and makes up part of popular Cardiff-based event organisers DEPOT Live's exciting summer schedule.
General release tickets for the gig went on sale on Friday, February 10 and the huge demand to see Sir Tom meant that they sold out within 10 minutes. A second date for Monday, July 24 was added but that also sold out in around an hour. By 11:08am, both gigs were showing sold out messages for the thousands still in the queue - you can read more about that here.

When the sale first started at 10am prices were set at £71.50 for general admission, demand for the second release saw this rise to £82.50 each. Just after going on sale at 10am, there were as many as 11,000 already in the queue.
Even though general sale tickets have sold out fans still may be able to find resale tickets from fans. These can be found on Ticketmaster's fan-to-fan marketplace and are highlighted by the distinct 'purple shuffle sign'.
There's no way of knowing how often resale tickets will become available but it's become a popular alternative for fans who miss out in the rush of the general sale. Resale tickets are generally slightly more expensive as fans set their own prices, as regulated by Ticketmaster.
The ticket prices were:
- Standing general admission release 1 - £71.50
- Standing general admission release 2 - £82.50
- Wheelchair accessible - £71.50
- Ambulant disabled £71.50
- Hearing impaired - £71.50
With his musical career spanning more than six decades, the 82-year-old is sure to perform some of his best hits including It’s Not Unusual, Kiss, Delilah, What’s New Pussycat, I’ll Never Fall In Love Again and If I Only Knew.
Nick Saunders, founder of DEPOT Live, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to be bringing the Voice from Pontypridd back to the Welsh capital this summer; we know it’s something that people have waited a long time for. We can’t think of a more perfect setting for Sir Tom than the castle.”
