Sir Tom Jones concert postponed 'after singer is taken ill shortly before going on stage'

Sir Tom Jones has been forced to postpone a concert in Budapest after 'being taken ill', according to reports. The legendary Welsh singer, who celebrated his 82nd birthday last month, was reportedly taken ill ahead of the latest European date on his Surrounded by Time tour on Tuesday, July 12.

A tour spokesman reportedly confirmed to Hungarian news website Index that that the legendary singer had been taken ill. The news comes just weeks after the Pontypridd star took to the stage at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff as part of the massive Stereophonics gig. You can read more about that here.

Sir Tom's planned concert at the MVM Dome in Budapest replaced the originally advertised Kiev stop on his Surrounded by Time tour, due to the ongoing war in Ukraine.

Hungarian news website Index reported that Sir Tom "withdrew from tonight's Budapest concert on the advice of his doctors" and that the concert will be rescheduled for August 16. The website added that the event organisers apologised to the audience in both Hungarian and English over the loudspeaker and said that Sir Tom was "looking forward to seeing them again".

Last Friday, Sir Tom had taken to the stage at Henley Festival before performing in Norfolk and Halifax over the weekend. He currently has a host of upcoming summer dates in his diary, including Luxembourg, Italy, Croatia and Germany before UK performances. Recent posts on his Twitter account, show Sir Tom looking happy and relaxed while on tour.

Since bursting onto the music scene in 1963, Sir Tom has had three number one singles and four number one albums. As well as his stellar pop career, which saw him become close friends with Elvis Presley, Sir Tom has also gained plenty of new fans thanks to guest his role a a judge on hit TV show The Voice.
