Sir Tom Jones and Dame Shirley Bassey are among the celebrities who have paid poignant tributes to the Queen after she died aged 96. News of the nation's longest-reigning monarch's death was announced on Thursday, September 8.
Following the announcement Welsh stars including Sir Tom Jones, who was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 2006 for services to music, shared messages of tribute. Sir Tom wrote on Instagram: "Queen Elizabeth II was a constant presence and inspiration throughout my life. She was a reassuring force in difficult times, her dedication was faultless and her commitment to duty unrivalled. I am honoured and blessed to have witnessed her reign. My deepest sympathies to the Royal Family, and gratefully I say, long live the King."
Dame Shirley Bassey also paid tribute. The Cardiff singer, who was appointed a dame in 1999 for services to the performing arts, has previously performed at many of the Queen's milestone birthday celebrations. Taking to Twitter Dame Shirley wrote that she'd miss the Queen "deeply". She said: "There is a reason why Her Majesty The Queen was admired not just at home but across the world.

"Through triumph and adversity, her devotion to our country has spanned eras of unprecedented change. In all that time she remained steadfast, dignified, inspirational. Her courage was mighty, her example iconic. She was an unstoppable force. Your Majesty, from the bottom of my heart I thank you for all that you have done. I shall miss you deeply. Dame Shirley Bassey."
Meanwhile actress Catherine Zeta-Jones shared a string of portraits of the Queen and wrote: "Dearest HRH Queen Elizabeth, you have been and always will be close to my humble heart as it breaks today. Our nation salutes you. Thank you. God Bless The Queen. Long Live The King."

Katherine Jenkins, who recently sang at the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations, shared a number of pictures of herself meeting Her Majesty and wrote: "On this heartbreaking day, my thoughts, prayers and deepest condolences are with King Charles, the Royal family and with my fellow Brits & commonwealth members around the world.
"Your Majesty, thank you for all you have given. You have been a selfless constant in our lives, knowing just what to say in our darkest hours. Welsh footballer Gareth Bale has also tweeted saying: "Heartfelt condolences to the Royal Family. Rest in Peace Your Majesty."
