Sir Sean Connery's old Aston Martin DB5 sold for more than £2million at auction

An Aston Martin DB5 owned by Sir Sean Connery has sold for more than £2million at auction.

The family of the late James Bond star put the car from his personal collection up for sale after he died aged 90 in 2020.

They said a “significant portion of the proceeds” will go to a philanthropic trust set up in his name after his death. It will donate money to good causes in Scotland and the Bahamas, where he lived with wife Micheline for over 30 years.

Connery drove Aston Martins as 007 but wanted one for personal use that wasn’t “laden down with gadgets”.

Son Jason 59, said: “He loved the car. It represented something in his life that was unique and captured a moment in time.”

The 1964 DB5 is the only model of the car he owned and it sold for £2.03m – way above its £1.1m to £1.4m estimate – on Thursday in Monterey, California. Its new owner will also get to go on a drive in the car with Formula 1 legend Sir Jackie Stewart, a pal of Connery.

Barney Ruprecht, of Broad Arrow Auc-tions, said: “Sitting behind the wheel of Sir Sean’s personal DB5 is like stepping into the shoes of the legend himself.”
