Sir Rod Stewart's 2001 Ferrari 550 Barchetta sells at auction for £309,000

Sir Rod Stewart has sold his 2001 Ferrari 550 Barchetta at auction for over £300,000. The Maggie May singer joined the likes of Simon Cowell and actor Will Ferrell selling their luxury motors at the Barrett-Jackson’s Scottsdale Auction.

The Hoops daft singer, 77, managed to get his hands on one of the just 448 Barchetta 550s made, finished in Argento Nürburgring (Silver) with Nero (Black) leather.

The luxurious car comes with a 5.5-litre V12 engine with 485bhp and 420lb/ft of torque - and Sir Rod's motor ended up going under the hammer for a whopping £309,000. The 550 Barchetta was later replaced by the upgraded 575M Maranello in 2002.

Last year, a Ferrari dealer serviced the car and included new engine mounts, a new left-side valve cover gasket, a timing cover gasket and an air-conditioning expansion valve, reports The Sun.

This isn't the only supercar Rod has sent to auction, as it was reported in January his former Lamborghini Countach would be hitting the market for a second time.

The legendary musician had the car delivered brand new to him in 1977 while touring Australia, and is one of only 157 examples of the first-series LP400 'Periscopio' models produced.

Rod later converted it to a targa-style open-top configuration, but it was later reversed to original 'Periscopio' specification. Last February, someone bought it in Paris for $940, 919, which set a new record for an auctioned Countach.

The Do Ya Think I'm Sexy singer is currently touring in Australia and celebrated Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou in his hometown. He projected a large photograph of Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou on screen as he sang in his infamous leopard print suit.

Taking to Instagram, Rod wrote: "Nice to be in your hometown, Ange!"
