Sir Rod Stewart kicks off Australian tour in style as he rips up Perth stage with epic dance moves

Rod Stewart kicked off his Australian tour with a bang over the weekend as he delighted crowds with his energetic dancing which sent fans into a frenzy.

The British rocker commanded the stage during the opening night of his latest tour across Australia, and shared a snippet of what he is getting up to with his loyal fleet of followers on social media as he kicked the show off on Saturday in Perth.

And people were left in awe at how the 78-year-old Maggie May singer can still prance about the stage "like a 20 year old" with some even joking they hoped he doesn't "break a leg" with five tour dates still to go.

"your the best Rod!! Moving all around that stage like a 20 year old," penned one fan.

Another wrote: "I saw you in Perth (for the second time) and you certainly know how to put on a show! The 3 back up singer's were sensational too. Thank you for a great concert."

Someone else joked: "Just don't break a leg before you get to The Mission Winery in Hawke's Bay!"

One fan shared a hilarious tale of the Touchline singer when he apparently split his trousers from rocking out on stage so hard when they attended their first concert to see him perform live.

They said: "Awesome. You were my first concert. You Split your purple pants in Hartford Connecticut and we loved it."

And don't worry, Scottish fans won't miss out as the legendary singer will be coming to Edinburgh as part of his UK tour this summer.

The six new gigs will see Rod head to the Scottish capital as well as Bristol, Hull, Durham, Northampton and Plymouth.

The rocker said he was excited for the summer so he can perform under the stars.

Speaking about the new dates, Rod said: "My favourite memories have been summer nights with a beer or two alongside the best fans in the world, I'm impatiently awaiting this summer playing at a variety of special venues - football, cricket and rugby stadiums, estates and castles! We'll all be dancing under the stars."

Rod's Edinburgh Castle gig will be the first he's played there in 13 years. He will perform on Thursday, July 6 and 7, and tickets can be found here.
