Sir Rod Stewart calls on Tory Government to step aside and 'give Labour Party a go'

Sir Rod Stewart has called for the Tory Government to step down in a surprise TV interview. The musician called into to Sky News to air his thoughts on the NHS and the state of the country.

Sir Rod, who had been watching the Sky News all day, said he had to call in to have his say and spoke to news presenter Sarah-Jane Mee. He shared his experience of using private healthcare and said he was shocked to find out that his local clinic was empty.

But despite using private healthcare the global star said he supported the NHS and the workers during the strikes. When asked about the industrial action he said: "They're not asking for a great deal. I have personally been a Tory for a long time but I think this government should stand down now and give the Labour Party a go at it because this is heartbreaking for the nurses. It really is heartbreaking.

"In all my years living in this country, I have never seen it so bad and anything I can do to help..." Sir Rod offered to pay for around 20 private scans for NHS patients in need.

He added: "Go on nurses. I'm on your side."

Sir Rod was also asked about whether his family had experience of using the NHS and his opinion on whether the NHS should remain free at the point of service or be privatised. He suggested there could be a compromise between the two options, but warned private healthcare could become very expensive.

"Maybe there is somewhere down the middle," he said. "You know if we are going to privatise it, it could become terribly expensive.

"As for my family, my immediate family and all my kids, I am lucky enough to send them to a private service but I don't know, this is a bad time for us in Great Britain. It really is.

"Change the bl**dy government."
