Sir Rod Stewart announces death of brother just hours after Glasgow performance

Legendary singer Sir Rod Stewart has sadly lost his older brother Bob, with the rockstar mourning his 'best mate'.

The sad news comes just hours after the 77-year-old performed at Glasgow's OVO Hydro as he continues his UK let of his world tour. It has been just a matter of weeks since Rod lost his other brother Don, who passed away aged 94 in September.

The Maggie May singer posted on social media to share the devasting announcement with his 1.2million followers. He said: "It’s with great sadness that I announce the loss of my brother Bob last night, who joins my brother Don on the great football pitch in the sky. I’ve lost two of my best mates in the space of two months. RIP Don and Bob ‘irreplaceable buddies'."

The Celtic daft singer was the youngest of five children of Robert Stewart and Elsie Gilbart, reports The Daily Record. His two brother and two sisters were born in Scotland before the family moved south of the border to London, where Rod was born.

Sir Rod and Bob shared a love for football, despite the pair supporting opposing teams, with the late Bob a Rangers supporter. However, the singer admits he never had any fights with his sibling over the issue.

Sadly, another Stewart brother Don died in September, just two days before Her Majesty The Queen.

Taking to social media at the time, he said: "It has been a devastating 48 hours. We lost my brother Don on Tuesday at 94 and today we have all lost Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II at 96.

"The Queen has been an unwavering presence throughout my life and a great unifier. A shining star that will never fade in our hearts and souls. What a privilege it was to perform for her. My deepest sympathies to the Royal Family. God save the King."

Rod's surviving siblings are his older sisters Peggy and Mary. Speaking at his sister Mary's 90th birthday party in 2019, Rod spoke about how his family had helped his early career.

Sir Rod is due to return to Glasgow on Saturday, December 3 to continue his tour.
