Sir Michael Stoute Final Runner: Wanderlust To Close Curtains

After over 50 years of training horses, the Sir Michael Stoute final runner goes in the last race at Nottingham on Wednesday afternoon. Wanderlust could end things on a high for the legendary handler.

Sir Michael Stoute Final Runner Goes At Nottingham

Stoute announced that he would be retiring at the end of the season earlier on this year and the time has finally come for him to saddle his final runner.

After training over 4,000 winners in his illustrious career, WANDERLUST is his final ever runner and takes part in the last race at Nottingham on Wednesday.

The three-year-old will go in the 1m6f handicap at 3:50 with Richard Kingscote doing the steering, a jockey who enjoyed his finest hour in the game thanks to Stoute. In a bid to get off the mark, the best horse racing betting sites price Wanderlust as the 6/4 favourite at the time of publishing.

Kingscote has ridden for Stoute for a number of years now, and lifted 2022 Epsom Derby winner Desert Crown to glory, on just his second ride in the race (see below).

The same year also saw Bay Bridge win the Champion Stakes where Kingscote and Stoute combined once again.

Wanderlust Looks To Get Off The Mark At Nottingham

Despite this filly already racing four times, she is yet to win. However, today looks like a golden opportunity with the step up in trip sure to be in her favour.

When third last time out at Yarmouth, Wanderlust rallied late on at 22/1 indicating that this extra two and a half furlongs will be right up her street.

This is also the same midweek meeting that Derby hero Desert Crown romped home on debut, so all things point to a fairytale ending for the 79-year-old.

Kingscote is looking for his 79th winner for Stoute and said: “I was just thinking that it’s the same card as when he (Desert Crown) won his maiden. I’m very lucky to be in the position I’ve been in. I’ve ridden some lovely horses and it’s been a good few years.
