Sir Graham Brady quits 1922 committee and is 'considering' standing for PM

Sir Graham Brady has resigned as chairman of the 1922 Committee - and is 'considering' standing to replace Theresa May as Prime Minister.

As chair of the committee of Tory backbench MPs, he's played a key role in moves to oust her as party leader.

Sir Graham said: "I have made the decision to stand down as chair of the 1922 committee in order to ensure a fair and transparent election process.

"I am considering the approaches I have received and will make a decision in due course"

Sir Graham was the last person to meet with the PM before she spoke outside Number 10 to confirm her departure.

It's understood he went into the meeting with an envelope of votes from the 1922 executive on whether to change the rules of the party to allow a second challenge to her leadership within 12 months.

And it's thought he delivered Mrs May a choice of leaving gracefully or facing the humiliation of being kicked out by her own MPs.

After the news emerged, bookies' odds on Sir Graham being the next Prime Minister jumped from 125/1 to 33/1.
