Sir Elton John launches limited Rocket Man Marmite to raise cash for AIDS Foundation

Pop legend Sir Elton John is spreading his talent for fundraising into supermarkets with the launch of a limited-edition Rocket Man Marmite.

The superstar singer, who revealed his fondness for the savoury spread last year, has been immortalised in pop art style on a new label. Inspired by the iconic “Feathers” portrait of Sir Elton by Terry O’Neill, the colourful artwork is set to make the £2.65 jars highly collectible.

And for every one sold, 50p will be donated to The Elton John AIDS Foundation.

Sir Elton said of the tie-in: “Whether it’s through the work of my Foundation or connecting with my fans on the road, I’ve always been about spreading love over hate, and I’m happy to do just that with my limited-edition Marmite jar."

He added: “Every jar purchased will also support those most at risk of HIV/AIDS through the work of the Elton John AIDS Foundation. What’s not to love?”

The jars, which hit shelves in Sainsbury’s on November 2, also mark Marmite’s 120th birthday, Sir Elton turning 75 and the 30th anniversary of his foundation.

Georgina Bradford, of Marmite owner Unilever, said: “We couldn’t help but be impressed by Sir Elton’s extensive Marmite collection when he posted it on social media last year, so we decided to bring together two true icons and raise money for this important cause.”

Unilever has imposed its biggest-ever price hikes of an average of 12.5% in the quarter to September in the face of soaring costs.
