Sir David Jason has admitted holding on to a number of his Only Fools alter-ego’s clothes
(Picture: Getty Images)Sir David Jason has admitted he still wears some of his Only Fools and Horse’s character’s outlandish wardrobe items more than two decades after the hit sitcom came to an end.
Sir David, 82, played wheeler-dealer Del Boy Trotter in the BBC programme set in Peckham from 1981 until 1991.
He then reprised the role in several Christmas specials leading up to the early 2000s, with the final episode coming out on December 25 in 2003.
With Only Fools recently voted as the UK’s favourite sitcom, the Touch Of Frost star has shared how he managed to hold on to a number of key pieces of Del Boy’s clothing, including his legendary sheepskin coat.
Speaking to The Sun, Sir David joked: “How dare you even suggest that I kept that bomber jacket, and that black cap, and that overcoat.
”I didn’t steal them . . . they were offered to me and because they were memories of my character, I grabbed them with both hands. I put them in a big suitcase and off I went,” he continued.
“There’s still one sweater I wear much to my wife Gill’s chagrin. She hates it and I love it.
“She says I should give it to charity and I say no, it’s my memories of Fools and Horses. I’ll tell you what I’ve also got, that big sheepskin coat that Del wore right at the beginning.
“Unfortunately, I can’t wear that because it’s too loud but I love it,” he added to the publication.
