Sir David Attenborough's sweet reply to schoolgirl who wrote to him

A schoolgirl was thrilled when she received a reply from Sir David Attenborough after writing to him about her love of wildlife programmes.

Rosie O'Callaghan, six, wrote to Sir David and said how she loves his videos and learning about nature.

Rosie told Sir David she looks after plants with her grandma and how she learned how important bees are to the planet. A reply was received from Sir David only four days later to the delight of Rosie and her mum Katie.

Sir David replied and said: "Dear Rosie. Thank you very much for your letter. I am so glad you enjoy my programmes. Best wishes, David Attenborough."

Rosie told the ECHO : “I’ve watched A life on our Planet and A life in Colour and I am going to watch the new one Prehistoric Planet, I've watched loads of David Attenborough programmes, even really old ones. I love him."

Katie O'Callaghan, Rosie's mum, said: “Rosie asked me to help find his address because she wanted to write to him. I looked it up online and when I went out and came back to the room Rosie had written it”.

Rosie is now writing a book called Rosie's Planet and said: "It's an activity book for children. It has a word search, a spot the difference and pages for them to draw things about nature. You have to use your imagination and make things up.

“It's going to be a real book, I want people to buy it. If they buy it we can get the money and spend it on things like helping nature like David does. We can rescue animals too, from all over. Things like that".

Growing plants is her “happy place.” If the book raises money, Rosie wants to buy plants for her school playground, St Finbar's, so they can have a nature corner. Rosie said: “I’ve been growing plants forever.”

Vivian O’Callaghan, Rosie’s grandmother said: “Rosie always loved looking after plants, last year she grew over 300 tomatoes. She’s so independent around nature and knows the names of plants and how to look after them.”

Rosie wrote back inviting Sir David for tea, telling him their house is in Liverpool and what colour their door is. It went on to say she is a vegetarian and gave a menu for Sir David to choose from and now Rosie waits eagerly hoping Sir David accepts the invite.
