Sir David Attenborough fans 'heartbroken' as he makes 'urgent plea'

Sir David Attenborough reduced his fans to tears as he made an "urgent plea".

The national treasure spoke about the current state of the environment on Frozen Planet II, as he made an emotional speech to viewers. On the BBC One show, which aired last Sunday, the nature expert begged viewers to ensure that there is a future for the planet.

In the episode, viewers were confronted with "heartbreaking" scenes showing the realities of what is happening to the frozen planet. Polar bears were shown struggling to survive, with dying penguins and the brutal effects of receding sea ice.

Sir Attenborough explained that the nations of COP27 are currently trying to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees. He passionately added: "A 1.5 degree rise will still bring significant changes with it.

"To stand any chance of saving what remains of our frozen planet and saving ourselves from the devastating consequences of its loss, we must stick to this commitment and honour it no matter how challenging it may be."

At the end of the clip, Sir David added: "If we can do something about it, then do it. We can do it. We must do it. Then there will be a future for the planet."

Fans of the show took to Twitter to express how emotional the episode made them feel. Katie said: "Finished watching Frozen Planet this morning. Bawling my eyes out wasn’t the plan for my morning! We really need to get our s*** together and it’s heartbreaking to see our leaders doing so little."

Lilian said: "I feel so sad for #DavidAttenborough. For so many years, he set out with such joy to bring us knowledge of the natural world, and now look. Tragedy wherever he turns, and all down to us. What a heartbreaking sight."

Meanwhile, Jen said: "I'm broken. #FrozenPlanet tonight was heartbreaking & we have a @Conservatives gov more interested in looking after themselves & the rich than doing what they can to stop the #ClimateCrisis."
