Sir Cliff Richard wants to duet with Mariah Carey for 'most unlikely' festive collab

Sir Cliff Richard is still holding out hope of duetting with Mariah Carey one day for the ultimate Christmas classic.

The singer, 82, has had four festive number ones, including 1988's Mistletoe and Wine.

He would love to land his first in more than 30 years by joining forces with the All I Want for Christmas Is You star, 52, despite admitting it would be an unusual pairing.

He said: "You're talking about someone who has got about a four-octave voice. I think I’ve got half an octave. It would be the most unlikely coupling for her and I to get together and that appeals to me."

While Cliff would love to land a UK number one again, he doesn't spend much time in England nowadays.

He told the James Watt in Conversation podcast: "I do have houses everywhere. I tend to spend the summers in Portugal and I go to Barbados in the winter.

"I come to New York for Christmas quite often. Everything seems to be lit up [there].

"It's fantastic for me. I'm a very fortunate person. My career gave me a life that I could only dream about when I was at school."

Cliff's had four Christmas Number ones over the course of his career. His first was the song I Love You in 1960. He later had another with Mistletoe and Wine in 1988.

The following year he achieved a third as part of Band Aid II with the track Do They Know It's Christmas? And then in 1990 his song Saviour's Day achieved the same feat.
