Sir Anthony Hopkins left locals stunned when he popped into a fish and chip shop in his hometown of Port Talbot in south Wales.

The Oscar winner, 87, returned to his birth place after losing his £6 million Pacific Palisades mansion to the Los Angeles wildfires earlier this month.

Hopkins was pictured hanging out at Steve's Fish Bar in the industrial Welsh town earlier this week, happily posing for photos at the shop’s counter.

The establishment’s owner shared photos of the Hannibal actor - who ordered a fish and chips - smiling and giving a thumbs up to the camera.

“He's back again for his fish and chips, can't ask for a better advertisement,” the owner wrote alongside the sweet snaps on Facebook.

He added: “Always pops in when he’s home, very nice guy.”

The Hollywood icon can get a large fish and chips for around £10, according to a menu from the shop.

Hopkins was born in Margam, Port Talbot, in 1937 and has been celebrated in the town with a mural.

His return to home soil comes after he lost his stunning four-bedroom home in Los Angeles in the wildfires.

The Fracture star, who bought the home in 2021, shared an emotional message of support to others who were affected by the fires.

He wrote on Instagram last week: “As we all struggle to heal from the devastation of these fires, it's important we remember that the only thing we take with us is the love we give.”

Hopkins’ classic colonial home was totally destroyed, with just its charred remains and a ravaged fence left standing.

He previously lived in an £8.4 million oceanfront mansion in Malibu, which he had bought in 2001.

The wildfires began on January 7 and spread rapidly, killing at least 28 people and destroying more than 10,000 homes.

Other stars who lost their homes in the fires include Paris Hilton, Billy Crystal, Mel Gibson, Miles Teller, and Diane Warren.

On Thursday night, the benefit concert FireAid was held to raise money for those affected by the fires.

Stars like Rod Stewart, Billie Eilish, Katy Perry, and Lady Gaga were just some of the famous faces who performed at two venues in Los Angeles.

Irish rock band U2 offered the first big donation of the night of $1 million dollars.
