Sir Alex Ferguson makes Man Utd Champions League prediction when put on spot on video

Sir Alex Ferguson has lightheartedly said he'll settle for a 5-0 Manchester United win at the Wanda Metropolitano as he was put on the spot by a fan.

The legendary boss arrived in Spain's capital ahead of the first leg of the Champions League last 16 tie between United and Atletico Madrid as he continues to follow his beloved club wherever they go.

Ferguson took some time to speak to fans as he was preparing to leave his hotel with his former skipper Bryan Robson.

And he seemed pretty optimistic that the Red Devils will come out on top against Diego Simeone's men as he joked that the visitors can put five past the reigning La Liga champions.

Asked if he was positive that Ralf Rangnick's side will secure the win and bring a lead back to Manchester for the second leg, he said: "Yeah, I hope so.

The supporter then added: "What's your prediction? 2-0, 3-0?"

Ferguson swiftly replied with a grin on his face: "I'll settle for five."

The fan concluded: "Thank you, Sir Alex, I'll see you later," as Ferguson and Robson drove away.

United are heading into the European clash after an impressive 4-2 win over Leeds United at Elland Road, but there has been some unrest behind the scenes with reports Cristiano Ronaldo could replace Harry Maguire as skipper.

Ferguson knows a thing or two about picking a United captain, with five of his choices lifting Premier League titles during his legendary reign.

When he was asked to select his greatest captain, he went for ‘Captain Marvel’ himself Robson.

Speaking at a 2021 Q&A for a film about the ex-England international, the Scot explained just what put Robbo above the rest.

“The players loved him,” he began. “They responded to him and he was the longest-serving captain in my time anyway.

“It’s difficult for a captain because sometimes he has to tell the truth to players, you know? The encouragement he’s got to give them sometimes can be quite volatile and he was like that, but the players did love him.

“They appreciated the time he took on them and another thing, he’s the only captain I knew who could make a decision on the pitch. He didn’t need to look over to me.

“He would do that and that’s unusual. In fact it’s very unusual because he had the balls to do that.”
