Sir Alex Ferguson and the unknown Rangers party celebration

Sir Alex Ferguson paid for a Rangers team night out after a famous win for his boyhood club.

The Manchester United legend was so pleased the Light Blues managed to defeat Leeds in the Battle of Britain, he sent the Gers players out for the evening.

The United boss emerged in the away dressing room at Elland Road after Rangers beat Leeds 2-1 in the second leg to ensure a 4-2 victory on aggregate way back in 1992.

And the win had the Scot in a fantastic mood as he saw his former club win, and United's arch-rivals lose.

He spoke to Walter Smith after the game in front of the Gers players, before passing his congratulations on with a special gift.

As revealed by Mark Hateley on the Quickly Kevin podcast, Sir Alex was so happy that he paid for Rangers' team night out later that evening.

He said: "What a night that was, afterwards. Sir Alex Ferguson came straight into the dressing after the game and said 'Well done, boys, the night is on me'.

"He booked a nightclub in Manchester, where we going back from, obviously leaving Leeds as quickly as we could. He said 'Have a great time'."

Meanwhile, Billy Gilmour made a shock appearance at pre-season training with one West of Scotland Football League side last night.

The Scotland international was pictured being put through his paces as Glenafton Athletic returned for their first session back ahead of the new campaign.

The 22-year-old is keen to maintain his fitness levels ahead of his own pre-season schedule with Brighton, which is due to begin soon.
