Siobhan McSweeney says Derry Girls "changed everybody's lives" ahead of final series

Derry Girls actor Siobhan McSweeney said her life is "completely different" since playing Sister Michael on the hit Channel 4 show.

The Cork native, who plays the unforgiving nun in the comedy series, shared that although there were tears filming the final series, she is very ready to say goodbye to her costume.

Speaking on the 'Off Menu' podcast with hosts Ed Gamble and James Acaster, Siobhan shared her dream three-course menu while dishing her feelings on Derry Girls series 3.

"It's sad isn't it - an end of an era," she said.

When asked by host James Acaster were there any tears when wrapping filming, she replied: "Oh yeah, for various reasons.

"It's changed everybody's lives, everybody that it's touched - like my life is completely different since playing that nun.

"It was weird taking off the costume for the last time because like we know it's the last time and there isn't sort of 'oh maybe her and Fraiser off in some spin off'. No it's not going to happen."

Siobhan also revealed the torment she faced at the hands of her habit costume in the three series of the show.

She said: "I did want to burn that wimple by the end of it.

"The upshot of playing Sister Michael is everything was loosey-goosey. No makeup - I came back in the second series, I had been away, and I came back with a cold sore and they were like brilliant. Best job ever.

"All the joy of that, a bit of moisturiser or not, was taken away by the 47 hours you would need to put on that wimple.

"There were staple guns, cellotape, prittstick. We tried everything - I don't know how actual nuns do it, I'm sure they don't have incredibly qualified makeup artists."

The 'Off Menu' podcast asks guests to come to their fiction restaurant and share their favourite starter, main course, side dish, dessert and drink - a feat that Siobhan did not take lightly, including many Irish inspired items in her menu.

She chose sparkling water, left overnight night or from the soda stream, popadoms and her mother's Irish soda bread with Bandon Co-op butter for her bread and crab claws for her starter.

Her main course was sausages and chips with ketchup and a cup of tea made with Cork water, a frozen margarita with Chilli-heatwave Doritos crushed around the rim to wash it all down and finished with Black Forest Gateau from the Black Forest.
