Single advert paid for Judi Dench's £8m home - and she doesn't remember filming it

Dame Judi Dench doesn't remember filming the advert that paid for her Surrey home.

The actress sat down with documentarian Louis Theroux to discuss her career and personal life as part of his new BBC series. The pair dissected everything from her starring roles in British classics to slowly losing her eyesight due to a degenerative issue - Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD).

A good portion of the interview took place in Judi's home in Surrey which Wales Online reported being worth an estimated £8m. She and her late husband, Michael Willams, purchased the farmhouse almost four decades ago, with a naturally much smaller price tag, but she admitted she doesn't remember doing the work that paid it off.

Discussing Michael and their home, Judi revealed that it was an advertisement for Clover soft spread that helped them take the property off the market. She said: "Suddenly, Michael and I got a Clover butter advertisement that bought this house. It was something like 38 years ago."

Judi confirmed the advertisement was a one-off and not part of a running brand agreement. After a producer steps in to show her the ad, she admits she has no recollection of ever filming it.

Later in the documentary, Judi said she doesn't want to retire from acting but admitted her AMD is having a severe effect on her eyesight and capabilities. She said: "I don’t want to retire. I’m not doing anything much at the moment because I can’t see. It’s bad, bad enough. Bad enough in that you’re quite fuzzy.

"I’ve got to teach myself a new way of learning. I have a photographic memory so a person saying to me, 'This is your line' - I can do that. And I have many people who can help me. Nevertheless, I realise that I need to know where it is on the page. I’ll teach myself a way, I know I will. So long as I don’t trip over doing it."
