Singer Meat Loaf dies ahead of hit musical coming to Dublin

Legendary singer Meat Loaf has died aged 74.

The actor and musician's family released a statement saying: "Our hearts are broken to announce that the incomparable Meat Loaf passed away tonight with his wife Deborah by his side.

"Daughters Pearl and Amanda and close friends have been with him throughout the last 24 hours.

"His amazing career spanned 6 decades that saw him sell over 100 Million albums worldwide and star in over 65 movies, including “Fight Club”, “Focus”, “Rocky Horror Picture Show” and “Wayne’s World.”“Bat Out of Hell” remains one of the top 10 selling albums of all time.

"We know how much he meant to so many of you and we truly appreciate all of the love and support as we move through this time of grief in losing such an inspiring artist and beautiful man.

"We thank you for your understanding of our need for privacy at this time. From his heart to your souls…don’t ever stop rocking!"

The cause of death has not been confirmed.

Meat Loaf went down in music history with his debut solo album, Bat Out Of Hell.

The 1977 record sold more than 50 million copies worldwide.

Bat Out Of Hell, the hit musical featuring the music of the rock legend is coming to Dublin's Bord Gáis Energy Theatre in August 2022.

Featuring Jim Steinman and Meat Loaf’s greatest hits, Bat Out Of Hell runs from August 30 until September 10 2022.

Bat Out Of Hell has received rave reviews from both audiences and critics, and has won the Radio 2 Audience Award for Best Musical at the Evening Standard Awards. It was also nominated for eight WhatsOnStage Awards including Best New Musical.
