A Singaporean-flagged container ship named DALI collided with the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, causing a significant maritime incident. The incident was confirmed by data from a maritime monitoring site and a Coast Guard officer.
According to maritime tracking data, the DALI was departing from Baltimore with a destination of Colombo, Sri Lanka when it struck a column on the bridge. The ship, which measures approximately 300 meters (984 feet) in length and 48 meters (157 feet) in width, was reported to have stopped around 1:30 a.m. ET and was surrounded by first response boats.
Local agencies received 911 calls reporting the collision between the DALI and the bridge, leading to an immediate response from the Baltimore Fire Department and the Coast Guard. Petty Officer Matthew West confirmed that it was indeed the DALI that struck the bridge.
Efforts are underway to contact the owner and managers of the DALI to assess the extent of the damage and determine the cause of the collision. The incident has raised concerns about maritime safety and the need for enhanced measures to prevent similar accidents in the future.
