Sinead O'Connor says she will never perform again after son's tragic death

Irish musician Sinead O'Connor has vowed to never perform in front of audiences again after her son's devastating death.

The singer was left heartbroken after her son Shane took his own life at just 17 years of age.

The young man was found dead on January 7 after going missing and was laid to rest following a Hindu ceremony a week later

The Nothing Compares 2 U singer has been paying tribute to the teenager since his death, and recently said she has spent a lot of time "reminiscing" about her late son.

She shared how a permanent place setting has been left at her dinner table for Shane and that he is "very present".

In a further update on Saturday, Sinead said she does not plan to perform ever again as there is "nothing to sing about".

She wrote on Twitter: "Just to say, suggestions there’ll be any performances this year or next year or ever again are erroneous.

There will never be anything to sing about again. #DropsMike."

Her fans were quick to extend their support to the singer and expressed their condolences for her loss.

One person said: "Sending you love Sinead. You don't own anyone anything, take care of you, beautiful girl."

A second said: "Never performing again is okay. Whatever others suggest. It's your life, your decision. Do something that feels right to you. Doing nothing is also okay."

A third added: "So sorry. You do what you need to help with the grief. Such a horrible event that no one else can understand but you. I do hope you have someone to talk to and have outlets for your pain and grief. Love you."

While a fourth replied: "I've seen you on stage plenty of times, I have most of all your recordings, I am very lucky. Your music is played at home every day of my life. What can I ask more? I respect your choices."

Sinead told last month how her son had tragically taken his own life after a struggle with his mental health.

She said at the time: "My beautiful son, Nevi’im Nesta Ali Shane O’Connor, the very light of my life, decided to end his earthly struggle today and is now with God.

"May he rest in peace and may no one follow his example. My baby. I love you so much. Please be at peace."

Speaking following Shane's funeral, Sinead described the send-off for her son, who she shares with Donal Lunney, as "very lovely".

She said at the time: "We just said goodbye to our beautiful angel, Shaney. Very lovely Hindu ceremony.

"Shane will have loved it. He was always chanting 'Om. Shanti'. I put a few packs of fags in the coffin for him in case there’s none in heaven.

"He’ll have loved that too. Om. Shanti."
