The estate of the late singer Sinead O'Connor has issued a formal request to former President Donald Trump, urging him to refrain from playing her music at his campaign rallies. The estate, along with her record label Chrysalis, expressed their disapproval of Trump using O'Connor's hit song 'Nothing Compares 2 U' during his political events.
In a joint statement, O'Connor's estate and Chrysalis emphasized that the singer lived by a strong moral code characterized by honesty, kindness, fairness, and decency towards others. They highlighted that O'Connor would have been deeply offended by her music being associated with someone she had referred to as a 'biblical devil.'
Sinead O'Connor, known for her fiery and outspoken nature, was a vocal critic of the Roman Catholic Church and had been candid about her mental health struggles. Her untimely passing last year at the age of 56 was attributed to natural causes, as determined by the coroner.
Trump's use of O'Connor's music without permission adds her to the list of artists who have objected to their songs being played at his rallies. Other musicians who have raised similar concerns include Rihanna, Neil Young, Linkin Park, the late Tom Petty, and Aerosmith's Steven Tyler.
It remains to be seen how Trump and his associates will respond to the estate's request to cease using Sinead O'Connor's music in a political context.
