Restricted free agent forward Simone Fontecchio has agreed on a two-year, $16 million contract to return to the Detroit Pistons. His agent confirmed the deal on Saturday. Fontecchio, 28, became a key player for the Pistons towards the end of the previous season following a trade with the Utah Jazz.
During his 16 games with the Pistons, Fontecchio showcased his skills by averaging 15.4 points while shooting an impressive 42.6% from beyond the arc. The Italian forward's performance caught the attention of the Pistons' coaching staff, and he is expected to play a significant role in new coach J.B. Bickerstaff's rotation.
Fontecchio's journey in the NBA has been marked by steady improvement. After averaging 6.3 points in his rookie season with the Jazz, he managed to increase his scoring output by 10.5 points between his time with the Jazz and the Pistons. Notably, he shot 44% on 3-pointers post-All-Star break, ranking 10th among players with 75 or more attempts in that period, according to ESPN Stats & Information.
