Simone Biles, the decorated gymnast who overcame a calf injury in the preliminary round, is set to compete in all four gymnastics events in today's women's team final at 12:15 p.m. ET. Just three years ago, Biles had to withdraw from Team USA's attempt at defending its gymnastics team gold in Tokyo.

Biles will be joined by a historic and diverse team, making up the most diverse US women's gymnastics team in Olympic history. Four out of the five team members are women of color, marking a significant milestone for USA Gymnastics.

The team comprises returning members such as seven-time Olympic medalist Biles, reigning Olympic all-around champion Suni Lee, world medalist Jade Carey, and Olympic team silver medalist Jordan Chiles. The youngest member, Hezly Rivera, at 16, adds youthful energy to the team.

Betty Okino, a bronze medalist from the 1992 US Olympic gymnastics team, highlighted the importance of representation in sports. She emphasized how the current team serves as role models for aspiring gymnasts from diverse backgrounds, showcasing the inclusivity and diversity within the sport.

Corrinne Tarver, the first Black gymnast to win an NCAA all-around championship and now the Head Women's Gymnastics Coach at Fisk University, expressed her emotional reaction to the team's diversity. She emphasized that talent transcends skin color and applauded the team for showcasing their skills on the mat.

The Americans are the favorites heading into the final after a strong performance in the qualifying round, finishing five points ahead of the Italian and Chinese teams. The team's unity, talent, and diversity have captured the attention and admiration of fans worldwide, setting a new standard for inclusivity in gymnastics.
