USA Gymnastics made an announcement on Monday that Simone Biles will be participating in all four events – vault, uneven bars, balance beam, and floor exercise – in Tuesday’s women’s team final. Biles expressed her gratitude for being able to do what she loves in an Instagram post on Monday, following a calf injury flareup during the women’s gymnastics qualification.
During the balance beam routine, Biles had an awkward landing while warming up for her floor exercise. She left the arena briefly but returned with heavy taping on her lower left leg. Despite the discomfort she experienced on Sunday, Biles managed to secure the top spot in the all-around rankings and helped Team USA claim the first position in the team standings.
Her coach, Cecile Landi, revealed to the media that Biles had been managing calf pain for a few weeks leading up to the competition in Paris, which resurfaced during Sunday’s events.
