Simon Pegg labels Rishi Sunak a ‘t**ser’ and a ‘pr***’ as the PM plans to make maths compulsory for students up to 18

Actor and comedian Simon Pegg has lashed out at the Prime Minister’s plan to ensure students in England study maths in some form until the age of 18. In Rishi Sunak's first speech of the new year, he said on Wednesday that the UK must "reimagine our approach to numeracy".

Taking to Instagram stories, Mr Pegg argued that Mr Sunak should be encouraging subjects such as arts in school rather than forcing students to do maths if they do not wish to do so.

“Rishi Sunak, our unmandated, unelected Prime Minister twice removed, has decided that it should be compulsory for children to learn maths up until the age of 18.

“What a pr***. What about Arts and Humanities, and fostering this country’s amazing reputation for creativity and self-expression?” the Hot Fuzz star said.

“What about that? What about the kids that don’t want to do maths? I hated maths, I dropped maths as soon as I could, and I’ve never needed it other than the skill set I acquired at the age of 12.

“But no, Rishi Sunak wants a f***ing drone army of data-entering robots."

On his Instagram story, the Shaun of the Dead actor proceeded to call Mr Sunak a "t**ser" and pleaded with his audience to "get rid" of the Tories.

“F***, f*** you Rishi Sunak and f*** the Tories.”

People have applauded Pegg for his impassioned speech, branding him a “national treasure” and thanked him “for giving a voice” to what so many are thinking and feeling.

Sunak’s plan would not be implemented until after the next general election and No 10 says further details will be set out in due course.

"In a world where data is everywhere and statistics underpin every job, letting our children out into that world without those skills is letting our children down," Mr Sunak said, adding that he wanted people to have the skills they needed "to feel confident" when it comes to finances.
