Pundit Simon Jordan says Everton should consider Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper as an option to be their next manager.
The Premier League Toffees are on the lookout for a new boss after Rafael Benitez was sacked at the weekend.
The Spaniard’s time at Goodison Park came to an end just six months after he was appointed, with Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at Norwich City proving to be the final straw.
Belgium head coach Roberto Martinez is reportedly favourite to take up the post.
But Jordan says Cooper should be among those in contention for the role, having been impressed by the work he has done Trentside.
“They should be looking at Sean Dyche. They should be looking at Frank Lampard,” he said on talkSPORT.
“There’s no reason for David Moyes to go back to Everton unless West Ham don’t give him what he’s entitled to, which is more support.
“They should be looking at nicking Patrick Vieira off Crystal Palace, if they are able to.
“They should be looking at Steve Cooper, and seeing the job he’s doing at Nottingham Forest and the job he did at Swansea.
“They should be looking and saying, can we get (Erik) ten Hag. Have we got that kind of ambition?
“They should look at Graham Potter.
“Can they get those sort of guys?
“And they should also give consideration in the conversation to Wayne Rooney. I don’t think he’s anywhere near ready, and I don’t think his backroom staff are strong enough to be able to give him the support and guidance going into what should be a very big and powerful Premier League club.
“All of those conversations should happen, and they should be all looked at and assessed in the realms as to what they would represent at Everton, what they can bring to Everton.
“But the most important thing now is some stability.”
Since he took charge in September, Cooper has transformed a Reds side from one which was bottom of the Championship table into one on the verge of the play-off places.
This weekend, his team take on arch-rivals Derby County at the City Ground.
Jordan says Rams manager Rooney should also be in the running for the Everton role, which would be a return to the club where he started his career.
However, he added: “If they want to be an elite football club, then it’s laughable to think Duncan Ferguson is going to provide that in the long run.
“Ithink it’s embarrassing to think that Wayne Rooney will.
“But it depends what you want.”
