Simon Jordan tells Brighton to raid Nottingham Forest for Steve Cooper as Russell Martin talk dismissed

Outspoken talkSPORT pundit Simon Jordan has told Brighton & Hove Albion to go for former Swansea City boss Steve Cooper as their next manager.

The Seagulls have been rocked by the departure of Graham Potter, who joined Premier League giants Chelsea earlier this week, and Cooper is one of the names to have already been mentioned as a possible target.

Cooper was Potter's successor at Swansea, and masterminded two unsuccessful charges to the play-offs, with his second attempt ending with defeat to Brentford at Wembley. To get the latest Wales football news sign up to our newsletter here.

However, his third crack at the top six, this time with Nottingham Forest, resulted in promotion to the Premier League.

Forest have won just one of their opening six games back in the top flight, with Cooper overseeing a huge overhaul of his squad, bringing 22 players on board over the summer.

But while Cooper is still finding his feet in the Premier League, Jordan believes he could be a good option for Albion.

At the time of writing, Bodo/Glimt boss Kjetil Knutsen is the favourite to take over with the bookies, while current Swans boss Russell Martin has also been mentioned as being among the runners and riders. It's been claimed Martin has been given permission to talk to the Seagulls, but WalesOnline understands that is wide of the mark.

Jordan believes Cooper is the currently the stand out candidate - but admits it's a move unlikely to materialise.

Jordan said on talkSPORT: "Where would I go? If I look into the Championship I can’t see anybody in there like when they had the privilege of going to look at Swansea [when they appointed Potter].

"I hate to say it, but if I was Brighton I would be knocking on Nottingham Forest’s door for Steve Cooper. They probably wouldn’t get very far with it, but that’s the sort of direction they should be looking in.

"Because I can’t see who they’d want to bring up from the Championship. You can put Sean Dyche in there and suggest he’s a decent fit for that job, but it depends how Sean views the Brighton opportunity.

"More importantly it depends how Brighton view the Sean Dyche opportunity."
