Simon Jordan slams 'screaming' Watford hypocrisy over Everton manager

Former football club owner and now pundit Simon Jordan has slammed Watford after they appointed Forest Green Rovers boss Rob Edwards as their new manager.

Former Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson will leave the Hornets at the conclusion of the Premier League season having failed to stop the club from being relegated to the Championship. In their search for a replacement for next season, the 19th-placed Premier League side have chosen Edwards.

The promising coach led Forest Green to a League Two title but won't be in charge when they make the jump to League One having decided to join the Hornets. And the way in which the top-flight club conducted their business has angered owner Dale Vince who has accused Watford of negotiating in secret.

Vince took to social media to reply to Watford's announcement tweet, saying: "Watford can’t read a contract or are careless of the truth - there is no such provision - and how would it even make sense to leave a club before going talk to another? He negotiated in secret and then left once he had the job. Watford are scrambling for cover, but there is none."

Jordan responded by pointing out the way in which Watford hit out when Everton made a move for manager Marco Silva back in 2017. "This is a club that screamed the roof down when Everton went after their manager .. Now they do the same to a newly promoted club … what’s the word for that hypocrisy ..," tweeted Jordan. Vince responded to Jordan saying he was 'fair.'

At the time of Everton's approach, Watford blamed the Toffees for approaching Silva which led to them being forced to sacking him, releasing a statement saying: "The catalyst is that approach, something which the board believes has seen a significant deterioration in both focus and results to the point where the long-term future of Watford has been jeopardised."
