Former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan reckons Newcastle United need to steer clear of the likes of Neymar if they want to build up the club properly.
The Magpies ended their Premier League season with an 11th place finish after a dismal start to their campaign. January saw Newcastle sign Bruno Guimaraes, Dan Burn, Kieran Trippier, Chris Wood and Matt Targett, all who played a pivotal part in helping Eddie Howe's side to safety.
Given their lowly position in the table at the time, Newcastle pulled off a miracle with the January quintet, who all contributed significant minutes and moments during the second half of the season.
Having secured their Premier League status for next season, the Magpies can now look to build upon their success. Plenty of big money names have been liked to Newcastle already this summer, with Neymar perhaps the biggest and most speculative of them all.
Newcastle will certainly not be in the conversation for the Brazilian forward this summer, but the links do serve as a reminder of their new found wealth.

And former Crystal Palace owner and talkSPORT pundit Simon Jordan believes the Magpies must build up their club by operating smartly in the transfer window, doing things the right way.
"I think Newcastle will build properly, will build with decent players that come in at the right times and I very much doubt it'll be through players like Neymar and neither should you want it to be because that will make you a carnival of horrors," said Jordan.
"Really, what you want to be is a football club that builds. You don't see Liverpool going out and just buying global superstars. They go and buy really good players from Southampton like [Sadio] Mane.
"They take [Mo] Salah who Chelsea hadn't wanted once upon a time, they take other players who aren't on other's lips as being iconic footballers and they make them into iconic footballers and that's what Newcastle should want to do. Man City were similar.
"That's the model you should be following, not the early 2000's 'Galacticos' with people like [David] Beckham rocking up to Real Madrid to give it all showbiz."
