Simon Jordan admits Newcastle's form has changed his view on their season prospects

Simon Jordan admits Newcastle United’s start to the season has changed his perspective on their prospects under Eddie Howe.

The talkSPORT pundit previously predicted that it would take Newcastle two or three years until they get ‘anywhere near the top six’.

The Magpies have lost just one of their opening five Premier League games (W1 D3) and also produced a thrilling 3-3 draw against reigning champions Manchester City.

Jordan has also been vocal regarding Newcastle’s takeover in October 2021 – claiming that the ‘morality ship has sailed’ in the Premier League. Although the former Crystal Palace owner still stands by his statements on the Magpies' owners, he does admit that Eddie Howe is building a side which is ready to compete in the top-flight.

“Look you’ve got to give a hell of a lot of credit because Newcastle are becoming a very good side,” Jordan revealed on talkSPORT. “A very competitive side and Eddie Howe is building a team there [that] is very much fit for purpose.

“I’m not thinking that [Newcastle will finish in the top six] but I am impressed in terms of my observations of the past.

“It doesn’t alter my perspective about who owns the club but it does change my perspective about Eddie Howe’s job that he’s doing with the team on the pitch.”

Newcastle will be looking to return to winning ways when they play host to Crystal Palace on Saturday (kick-off 3pm).

The Magpies have played their last three games in all competitions on the road and they return to St James’ Park this weekend, where they’ve lost just one of their last 12 Premier League games (W8 D3).
