Simon Cowell surprises BGT viewers with 'strange' David Attenborough impression

Simon Cowell surprised fans on Britain's Got Talent tonight - by doing an impression of David Attenborough.

The music mogul and TV judge was giving his verdict on schoolboy Aneeshwar Kunchala's powerful poem about the environment, when he shocked viewers by suddenly breaking into an impression of the television presenter.

As they discussed Aneeshwar's wonderful poem, they said he could easily be the next David Attenborough - and it was then that Simon jumped in to give his verdict on the performance, but in David's accent.

He said: "I agree with everything, it was pure utter magic and let's remember, you are seven-years-old and there was so much to remember and to time everything. Here's a conversation I think's going to happen."

He then went into his impression, adding: "Aneeshwar, I would like you to take over from me doing Blue Planet."

Fans of the ITV show hailed the impression and joked Simon should be on his own show as a contestant.

"Tonight's acts are so bad that Simon's impression of David Attenborough might just win tonight's vote #BGT," one wrote.

A second added: "Who knew Simon Cowell could do a semi decent David Attenborough impression #BritainsGotTalent," as a third shared: "Simon’s David Attenborough impersonation has to be in the top 3. Aneeshwah was amazing. #BritainsGotTalent."

In his poignant poems, Aneeshwar celebrated the amazing Planet Earth.

"There’s no other planet like earth, it holds plants and flourishing life. It is an amazing creation, a real inspiration. There’s no other planet like earth. We’ve been getting it wrong for much, much, much too long," he says.

"Cutting down trees, polluting the seas, poaching the animals for accessories. We need to stop getting it wrong. I wish you could see the Tasmanian tiger, in its very special, unique attire."

He added: "The bats and the flying squirrels, gliding the open skies, and we can catch the beauty forever in our eyes. The gorgeous peacocks stand stairway, the fantastic golden eagles gliding display, and there’s no other planet like earth."

Viewers are now calling for Aneeshwar to take over David's job one day.

"Watch out David Attenborough, Aneeshwar is coming for your job! #BGT," one shared, as another added: "The future David Attenborough … in fact the future Aneeshwar. Kudos to the young man whether he makes the final or not!"

A third penned: "The cutest little boy, with magic in his eyes caring for the animals and our planet! The next Sir David Attenborough."
