Simon Cowell gets slammed with a pie to the face on America's Got Talent

Simon Cowell's back may have healed but it remains to be seen if his ego will a pie covered in cream was smacked in his face on America's Got Talent.

And the notoriously hostile judge certainly wasn't smiling after the audition left him covered.

Simon, 61, was asked to join the hopeful on stage and was met with a pie straight in his face.

The music mogul should have known what was coming as moments earlier fellow judge Howie Mandel was met with the same fat after being splatted by another of the show's judges Heidi Klum.

But as the judges enjoyed the fun of the face-splats, Simon returned to his chair with his usual deadpan expression - albeit it still covered in cream.

And he perhaps sarcastically told the contestant: "You've gotta take this more seriously."

His comments brought laughter to judge Sofia Vergara who - also covered in pie - smirked in Simon's direction.

The teaser video was released ahead of the sixteenth series of the much-loved talent competition which hits American screens on June 1.

Simon's return follows his serious back injury suffered after he came off his electric bike in August last year.

He suffered severe injuries to several parts of his spine and had to undergo a six-hour surgery to insert a rod in his back.

At the time he shard a message to social media: "Some good advice... If you buy an electric trail bike, read the manual before you ride it for the first time.

"I have broken part of my back. Thank you to everyone for your kind messages. And a massive thank you to all the nurses and doctors. Some of the nicest people I have ever met."

Despite being bed ridden for months, the fall hasn't put him off exploring on his electric bike.

He was spotted last week going for a jaunt through the streets of Malibu on the mobile.

He awkwardly waved at the paparazzi at one point and even flashed the cameras his trademark blinding smile.
