Simon Cowell buys electric car after son, 7, teaches him about climate change

Simon Cowell says son Eric has been educating him about climate change, sparking his decision to buy an electric car.

Cowell is known for his love of gas guzzlers and was last week seen leaving the Britain’s Got Talent auditions in a Rolls Royce.

His car collection has included a Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder, a Jaguar Eagle Speedster, a Bugatti Veyron and a Mini.

But during the performances, the pop mogul said: “My son is obsessed with climate change, he’s taught me a lot recently.

“He goes down on the beaches and cleans them up.

“I think it’s something we should all take seriously now. I’ve just bought a Tesla.”

He was speaking after a dance act performed to a backdrop of climate change imagery including the voice of TV naturalist David Attenborough.

Cowell, 62, praised the act for the theme, saying: “My son is going to love this, that’s how you make an impression on a show like this.”

But fellow judge David Walliams noted Cowell had some way to go when being green, by pointing out he flies in
a private jet.

Cowell hit back, saying: “You just use Elton’s, don’t you?”

The pair have been joking with each other during the BGT try-outs at the London Palladium.

Last week, the Mirror reported how Walliams mocked Cowell over his engagement. The pair have also clashed over Walliams’ use of his phone.

Cowell branded the comic, 50, rude and even the crowd screamed for him to put it away.

BGT normally airs on ITV in April and this will be the first series in two years after it was cancelled due to the pandemic.
