Silverstone will celebrate 75 years of racing this weekend with Formula 1 central to the anniversary.
It was in 1948 that the circuit first hosted the British Grand Prix and cars from that front-engined era will be on display ranging from Alfa Rome to Maserati, and including two which contested that initial race three quarters of a century ago.
More recent F1 history will be celebrated too. Adam Tyrrell, the grandson of former team owner Ken, will do demonstration runs in the Tyrrell 001 first raced by Sir Jackie Stewart back in 1970.
And Esteban Gutierrez will get into the set of Lewis Hamilton’s pole-sitting Mercedes for a series of flying laps.
The display of cars to see in the Silverstone Museum included the Williams with which Nigel Mansell won the 1992 world title as well as Ayrton Senna’s McLaren title winner from the previous year.
There will also be cars on display from this year’s championship from a number of teams: Mercedes, McLaren, Williams, Aston Martin and Alpine. A couple are expected to take to the track during the course of the weekend.
Away from F1, there will be 20 different retro races in all spanning a variety of different race formats.
There are a wide range of tickets on sale and children under the age of 16 go free.
