CCTV cameras captured the moment a man killed his best friend after throwing a punch while they quarrelled drunkenly in the street.
The footage shows Jay Webster and Benjamin Lloyd making their way along a street in Caerphilly, Wales. Webster has been turned away from a pub because he was too drunk before the pair - who had been best mates for '20 odd years' - were seen arguing outside a library.
As reported by Wales Online, Webster, 28, called it a "silly argument" then pushed Lloyd up against a window. Lloyd took two initial swings and missed - but Webster then punched Lloyd, 27, to the left side of his face with his right fist and he fell to the ground.
Cardiff Crown Court heard Webster told onlookers he "did not mean to do it". He stayed with his friend as witnesses called for an ambulance before Lloyd regained consciousness after three minutes.
The court was told Webster appeared "absolutely devastated" as he stood over his best friend frantically saying: "Get up Ben. Get up." Both of them then left the scene separately - but Lloyd was found unconscious the next morning in bed by his father.
On Tuesday, June 6, Lloyd's mum Kay Main addressed journalists outside court. She said: "Ben and Jay knew each other for about 20 odd years since they were six or seven. The boys always got on really well so losing Ben and seeing Jay locked up was almost like I lost both of them."
Main said she did not "hold any malice" towards Webster after believing her son's death was an accident. Webster, of Senghenydd, near Caerphilly, pleaded guilty to manslaughter and was jailed for five years and three months.
