Sile Seoige says life has been 'mental' since ditching city for roots in west of Ireland

Sile Seoige said she’s loving being back home with her nearest and dearest in the west of Ireland after ditching city life in Dublin for native Galway.

But the presenter admitted it has been ‘mental’ trying to navigate the move with two young kids on board and said she’ll be glad to see the day they get to move into their new build house.

She told Irish Daily Mirror: “Life is full on, we are building a house. And right now life is what it is for everyone with small kids, it’s kind of just in the thick of it.”

“We are renting until the house is built, so I mean you are in between when you are building a house but it will be fabulous when we get to move in.”

The Galway born Gaeilgeoir said she and her partner Damien O’Farrell were sad to leave their lives in Dublin.

She explained that they made the decision due to rising house prices paired with her desire to have their kids to grow up surrounded by the Irish language like she did.

But now that they are there and getting settled into their quieter country lifestyle, the Spiddal native beamed: “It is great to be home, I love it.”

“My oldest friends are there so I’m back with some of my closest friends there right beside me, which is lovely.”

The move isn’t the only milestone moment for the family, as they marked Cathal’s first day at school this month, whilst their daughter Cliodhna’s first birthday is just around the corner.

The 43-year-old said: “Cathal is five and he has started big school. And little Cliodhna is 10-months so yeah life is good. She will be one before we know it. It is just flying by.

“They are good and I feel good.”

Brave Rosanna Davison speaks about 14 miscarriages and telling husband to ‘find somebody else’ on TG4 programme with Sile Seoige (TG4)

Meanwhile, the presenter, who debuted her moving TG4 documentary, Deireidh Tochta, which explored the grief, hopes, fears, and frustrations of those who have gone through miscarriage, last year, she said she is already working on another new project.

“We are in development about a few things. They take time as docs do, they are not a quick process, so it will be interesting to see now how they go.

“I suppose from my experience of working on documentaries like the one I did last year, which is a very personal one, talking about having been through a miscarraige. I’ve had two.

“I really liked it, because I suppose you get your teeth in and it is very personal and it allows you to do something of real value I think. So I certainly would be interested in getting into that type of programming again.”

Asked if she put her name in the hat to screen test to be Jennifer Zamparelli’s co-host on Dancing with the Stars, following Nicky Byrne’s departure, she said: “Oh I wouldn’t have even thought about that. Well I think it is a done deal that it will be Lottie, she would be fantastic. She was brilliant the night she filled in for Jen and the two of them are pals, she’s a brilliant presenter, she’s won the thing before, surely that’s already carved in stone as a done deal. I would think so, yeah. She’d be fantastic.”

Speaking at the ALDI tent at the National Ploughing Championships, the Ready to be Real podcast host said she’s instead focused on bringing the conversations to the next level with live shows in the new year.

She said: “I am contemplating doing it but the honest answer is, life has been so mental for me personally in terms of my family and everything that I just haven’t had time to allocate space and planning for that.

“But I think it is something I'll look at for next year.”

“It’s funny the world and their mother started a podcast in the pandemic, but I had actually been talking about doing it for such a long time so I did it in 2019,” she added.

“Thankfully I launched it just before it all happened. But look, even if I hadn’t, I probably would have gone ahead and done it. But I was delighted to launch when I did and I love it. I love doing it.”
