Every time a parched punter fancies a pint at the Thistle Hotel bar in Milnathort they will be reminded of the town’s links to sporting greatness.
Trophy-laden trainers Lucinda Russell and Peter Scudamore have unveiled a specially-made beer font emblazoned with Grand National-winning racehorse Corach Rambler’s name and jockey colours.
The dream duo were attending Saturday’s packed local gathering at the hotel, dedicated as a celebration of their achievements at the Arlary House Stables.
It was at those stables, situated less than two miles from the hotel, were Corach Rambler was raised and trained to a rousing victory at Aintree in April.
It was the second Grand National success to come out of Russell’s stables in seven years after the late One for Arthur won the 2017 competition.
The new Corach Rambler draft design sits right next to a similar one set up previously in dedication to One For Arthur.
The 2023 Grand National trophy was paraded around to the delight of locals who got the chance to hold and pose with the silverware.
The live music and face painting proved as popular as the sunny weather, with the food from the hotel kitchen going down a treat.
Following the event, owner Richard Law beamed: “There was maybe 200 people in attendance and the weather was fantastic.
“The food went down well along with the free slushes and soft drinks for all the kids.
“It was a real community effort and there was so much praise for the staff. I made it all well worth the time spent putting it all together.
“Lucinda and Peter went round everyone with the magnificent trophy and let them hold it and have photos.
“The buzz was so fantastic we didn’t want it to stop.
“We had music provided by some local upcoming bands, some still at school and this went down great everyone showed their appreciation.
“The hired-in face painter earned her wages so many kids wanted their faces painted - and a few adults which the kids laughed so hard at seeing these adults sitting in the chair.
“This was all about the local community and boy did they come out.”
Richard also wished to apologise to anyone in the local area who was disturbed by the noise from the event.
