Lucasfilm

The future of Star Wars, as it stands, is still unwritten. Lucasfilm has wholeheartedly committed to the franchise’s expansion onto Disney+ – more seasons of The Mandalorian and Andor are on the way, alongside new shows like Ahsoka, The Skeleton Crew, and The Acolyte.

But there remains the lingering question of if and when this galaxy far, far away will make a return to the big screen.Rian Johnson, Taika Waititi, and Patty Jenkins were all – at some point or another – attached to films that would supposedly have looked beyond the Skywalker saga and opened up Star Wars to new characters, stories, and worlds. But, as of now, nothing’s been formally announced.

That makes this weekend’s Star Wars Celebration a particularly intriguing event. It’s the biggest gathering of fans you’ll ever see on this planet (or any other), busy with cosplayers, droid builders, artists, writers and, in general, people who know their Salacious B Crumbs from their Elan Sleazebagganos.

It’s also the place where Lucasfilm makes all their biggest announcements and surprise reveals. What lies in Star Wars’ future? More shows? A new film? At this point, anything’s possible.

We’ll be on the floor for the entire four-day event – and you can get access to a one-stop breakdown of the future of Star Wars with our special edition of the Life Cinematic newsletter, delivered right into your inbox on Monday, 11 April at 6pm.

Expect news, analysis, and (probably) some adorable pictures of Grogu. What more could a Star Wars fan ask for?
