"Sign him up for life" - Joleon Lescott sends contract message to Man City

Manchester City are in good fettle as they aim to end their Champions League hoodoo.

The Blues saw off Sevilla 3-1 on Wednesday night to finish the group stage unbeaten. They now await the draw for the last-16 as they bid to win a competition that continues to elude them.

Many have suggested that Pep Guardiola's time at City will not be considered complete until he leads them to victory in Europe's blue riband club competition.

However, former City defender Joleon Lescott disagrees and suggested the club sign the Spaniard up for life. Guardiola's contract expires at the end of the current season but the 51-year-old has yet to pen an extension.

Speaking on BT Sport , Lescott said: "I don't think his legacy will be determined by whether or not they win the Champions League. He himself I think will determine how long he stays. If he wins it (Champions League) that will probably have an impact. But I'm sure the club would love to sign him up for life, regardless of if he wins this tournament.

"His legacy within the Premier League and English football, we've seen the transition with the coaching. There's so many people that have taken so much stuff and ideas from Pep, I don't think he can be questioned for what he's done at Man City.

"When the season end comes, you are drained and it's hard to go again so soon after. But I'm sure he's equally determined as he ever has been. This is his team with his players and his identity."
