A Byker resident has called for more to be done on the 'sickening' litter issue which is plaguing the area.
From household waste to crisp packets, Daniel Johnson says it is depressing to see the state Shields Road has descended into.
The 38-year-old, who works as a translator, said: "What I see is household waste, crisp packets, take away packaging, carrier bags, beer cans, face masks, etc.

"It looks like every day someone empties several wheelie bins in the middle of Shields Road.
"The rubbish on the banks of Byker bridge is particularly saddening as it is a green and beautiful area.
“It makes me feel enraged, sickened, and depressed.”
Many people from the community have united in a bid to improve the look of the area and put a halt to Byker's litter issue.
Byker Community Trust volunteers help to manage litter and waste on the Byker Wall Estate.
Bijoli Deypurkaystha, community engagement officer at Byker Community Trust, part of Karbon Homes, said: "A cleaner and greener Byker is one of the themes in our Thriving Byker Strategy and we work in partnership with local organisations and community groups to undertake litter picking across the estate.
"We also work with local schools and voluntary groups to create posters that are displayed across the estate to raise awareness and encourage residents to keep Byker tidy.
"We provide free skips on certain days across the year for residents to safely dispose of the bulky waste and our Grounds Maintenance Team look after all the bins on the estate, which are very well used.
"We’ll continue to work with the local community and organisations to ensure we keep the Estate clean and tidy.”
Newcastle City Council has urged residents to dispose of their litter responsibly to avoid a build-up of mess on the streets.
A spokesman said: “We share residents’ frustrations over littering and thank those volunteers who help keep their communities tidy.
“Our teams work tirelessly year-round to keep our parks, streets, and public spaces clean. We also run a range of clean-up campaigns to encourage people to take pride in their local areas and dispose of rubbish responsibly.
“In September (2021), officers from Newcastle City Council and Your Homes Newcastle, supported by local councillors and other partners, carried out two-week-long operations in the East End ward in Byker to clear litter, waste, and overgrown vegetation, which was well received by local residents.
“Littering can be a real blight on communities and we cannot tackle this issue alone. We encourage everybody to dispose of their waste responsibly to help keep our city looking beautiful.”
