Sickening footage shows brutal attack in Dumfries pub

Sickening CCTV footage has shown the moment two men were brutally attacked by a man in a Dumfries pub. One man was hit with a chair while lying motionless on the ground. The footage shows a group of half a dozen people appearing to chat while a female member of staff cleans the bar area.

Seconds later one man is struck so hard across the face it almost propels him out the door of the Waverley bar in the towns' Lover's Walk. The attacker then punches an elderly man who falls to the floor before he is smacked across the face with a barstool.

The female staff member is then seen running to stop the fight and bravely confronts the attacker pushing him away from the victim. She helps the victim to his feet and the attacker and a friend leave the bar.

The condition of the two men is not known or what started the altercation.

A source said: "They were just chatting and the lassie behind the bar even waves her hand as if someone has just said cheerio to her before the fight suddenly breaks out. Can't even call it a fight as neither of the two men had a chance to react. Nobody knows what it's about but it's shocking and so violent. The older man could've been badly hurt."

Police Scotland said they have not received any complaints about the incident.

The Waverley Bar has been contacted for comment.
