Sickening England v Ireland incident sees player sent off and almost knocked out

A remarkable England v Ireland match saw the two teams draw 34-34 at the World Rugby Under 20 Championship as Irish centre Hugh Cooney was sent off for a reckless incident that left him needing medical treatment.

Cooney almost knocked himself unconscious as he launched into a wild tackle on an English opponent, clashing heads before being smashed to the turf.

Cooney lay on the ground clutching his head and struggled to get back on his feet before departing the field with the help of medics as the officials reviewed footage to decide on what course of action to take. A red card was the inevitable outcome, with Cooney already gone from the field when it was produced from the referee's pocket.

The sickening head clash came late in the game, with both sides desperate for a win as they look to earn a place in the semi-finals.
