Sick thug stamped on ex-partner's head nine times in brutal attack after wedding

An intoxicated and vicious thug stamped on his "terrified" ex-partner's head nine times before dragging her across the floor after attending a wedding.

Bully Scott Greenall also violently grabbed her by the neck before slamming her into a cupboard during an incident early on in their "toxic" relationship.

The "violent, controlling and aggressive" 42-year-old had been given "chance after chance after chance from the courts" in the past, Hull Crown Court was told.

Greenall, of Axdane, Orchard Park estate, Hull, denied assaulting the victim, causing actual bodily harm, on November 20 and attacking her on November 14, Hull Live reports.

He had been convicted after a trial at Hull Magistrates' Court on December 21.

He admitted two offences of breaching a restraining order, harassment and obstructing police and had been committed to Hull Crown Court for sentence.

Sam Sharp, prosecuting, said that Greenall and the woman had been living together, even though he was not supposed to do so under the restraining order.

There was an argument about pictures on Facebook and Greenall followed her up to a bedroom, where he grabbed her around the neck and was shouting and swearing at her.

He pushed her into a cupboard, causing her to bang her head and leaving a lump on her temple.

The more serious second assault happened after the two went to a wedding together and there was a disagreement over the woman's appearance.

They left the wedding separately but she later went to find Greenall at his mother's home because she needed a key for her home and he had the only key.

When he let her into the house, Greenall "berated her" about where she had been and who had been with her.

He shouted at her and pushed her to the floor.

In fear, she got into the foetal position but he stamped on her head nine times.

"He was dragging her around the property with his arms while verbally abusing her," said Mr Sharp.

The woman suffered a laceration to the inside of her mouth, swelling to her face and bruises to her body.

Greenall had convictions for 23 previous offences, including assault causing actual bodily harm, assault, harassment and breaching restraining and non-molestation orders.

Cathy Kioko-Gilligan, mitigating, said that there had been mutual contact between the two, even though the onus under the restraining order was for Greenall to stay away from the woman.

"The defendant accepts now that this relationship is over and he is saddened that it has come to an end in this way," said Miss Kioko-Gilligan.

"He knows that alcohol is at the root of his offending. At the time, he was struggling emotionally.

"He is motivated to address his alcohol misuse. He has turned a corner. He is sorry. He is remorseful."

The pair had been drinking at the wedding but Greenall was not drunk.

Judge John Thackray QC told Greenall: "You describe this relationship as toxic. No responsibility lies with your victim.

"The reason, and the only reason, this relationship was toxic was because you were violent, controlling and aggressive.

"Your victim was entitled to feel safe and secure in your presence. It was only good fortune that the injuries were not more serious.

"She must have been terrified. The incident only came to an end because the police arrived on the scene.

"You have had chance after chance after chance from the courts and you have gone on to commit these serious offences."

Greenall was jailed for two years.
